A question from Tat Lam
Hi Mr. Bruni,
Caught you on Martha Stewart this morning. Your segment was Martha was very enjoyable.
A little interesting observation from the show: I noticed when you were talking about your grandmother homemade pasta - the shape of it and how your grandmother shaped it - you described it and demonstrated it by putting your thumb between your index finger and your middle finger. Interestingly, that particular hand gesture means "F--- You" in some parts of Asia. (I am Chinese from Hong Kong living in NYC.)
Funny how a perfectly innocent hand gesture could mean something rather racy on the other side of the world.
I had a great time reading Born Round, and look forward to more of you writing in the Times Magazine.
All best,
Tat Lam
Tat, Obviously, I had no idea! I certainly hope no one took the gesture that way . . . glad you enjoyed "Born Round," and thanks for writing.
