A question from Sara Graham

I just finished your book and I LOVED it! I did not grow up in a big, Italian family, but I've always known how to eat. I am one of four girls, the biggest one of the bunch. I've tried a lot of diets/rules/regulations regarding me and food, but I've about decided you must DECIDE you want to change your life. It always seems I am either really in control, or totally out of control. I will say this about your book: I laughed almost uncontrollably in some parts, particularly your "last last last hurrah dinners" (I've had a few of those myself!) and the across MI bike ride. I am not sure that's what you intended, but it was comical. I kept telling my husband "This is me!!"

I do have a question for you...we currently live in Charleston, SC and love the food scene here. Have you reviewed any restaurants here? Do you have any favorite restaurants here in Chuck-town?

P.S. Have you ever seen the movie "Fatso?"

Answer:

Oh no: I'm afraid my answers to your questions are going to be very unsatisfactory, and I apologize for that. I've not eaten in Charleston in many, many years, so have no thoughts on the restaurant scene there or recommendations. My eating there preceded any note-taking or clear remembering. It was all very incidental and spontaneous and casual.

I've never seen "Fatso," but will now look it up. Thanks for flagging it, and for reading the book, and for your kind words about it. It's absolutely meant to be funny; I think the humor makes the reading easier and more pleasant, and leavens some of the dark stuff, much as humor does in life itself. Again: many, many thanks.
