A question from Robert V Marrow
Your NYTimes interview implied that you count calories and limit yourself to about 2500 per day. How do you do that? Do you know the calorie count of everything you eat and do the math daily?
The problem with interviews is the the need to talk in generalizations. I don't count calories: there isn't any way. And I'm estimating WILDLY. I probably in truth never manage fewer than 3,000 calories a day, or at least that was the case during reviewer years, when a real count probably would have been closer to the 3,500 to 4,000 range, many days. I just meant a keep a loose, loose "sense" of not going beyond a point, the point being one where I can make up for the excess with vigorous exercise. But you're right: I don't count. I just stay mindful of general amount and type, with the consciousness of not eating too very much of something I know to be especially fattening. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the good question.
