Me & My Work
Me: I've spent more than two decades as a journalist and have lived in many places and written about many things, including not only food but also politics, which led to a 2002 best seller, Ambling into History, about my time on the campaign trail with George W. Bush. I've been with the New York Times for 15 years, and you can find my biography here, on the newspaper's web site.
My Work: At the Times, I became an opinion columnist in late June 2011, and write two columns weekly, including in the Sunday Review. Before then I wrote full-time for the Sunday magazine, including profiles of the Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, the aspiring culinary celebrity Katie Lee and the television physician Dr. Oz. From June 2004 through August 2009, I was the newspaper’s restaurant critic. Here’s a sampling of the work I did as a critic, along with some other articles for the Times.
